This morning we tried to figure out how many breaths we take in a day. We decided that it would be a bit silly to spend all day counting our breaths so we had to come up with a better strategy. After lots of discussion, our best solution was to count the number of breaths we take in a minute and then multiply that by 60 to give us the number of breaths we would take in an hour. Then we could multiply that by 24 to give us the number of breaths we would take in a day.
We each found a buddy to time us, so we could count the number of breaths we took in a minute. Our answers were mostly between 16 and 36. The number of breaths we took in a day worked out to be about 20,000 - 40,000. Then we figured out that the number of breaths we would take in a day would increase if we did lots of running or sports that day.
It was quite hard to count our breaths, but we learnt some new strategies for solving problems.
