We had an amazing day at Lake Pupuke!
When we arrived we were greeted by the Birkenhead Leisure Centre staff and we had our morning tea.
First we went raft building. The instructor taught us how to make a raft from bamboo sticks, rope and tyres. Tying the knots was tricky, but we had some fabulous parents to help us. We worked as a team and had fun building our rafts. When we went in the water everyone squealed and fell off their rafts. Some groups lasted longer than others. One of the rafts sank as soon as the group got in the water. Even though we got soaked, raft building was awesome!
After that we went pancake making. First we lit the gas and sprayed oil into the pan so our pancakes wouldn't stick. Some of us found that we should put oil before every pancake, as they DID stick to the pan! It was tricky when we tried to flip it over. Some pancakes were a bit overcooked! People made funny faces when they ate them because they were so good!
Then we went into the woods to make pretend fires. We couldn't make real fires because we didn't want the whole bush to catch fire. Some people made fires in a triangular pyramid shape. We know it's called a teepee. We had to put rocks and leaves under all the sticks to make it look real. We looked at everyone's fires; they were pretty good.
After that we had a yummy lunch and put on more sunscreen!
Next we went to team building games. Sarah, the instructor, talked about what we were going to do. We played a game called Titanic, which needed a lot of teamwork. The parents were the sharks and they snatched the icebergs when there were no feet or hands on them. The sharks were starving and very fast. We all enjoyed the activity.
When it was time to get on the bus, we all decided we'd love to do it again! Our day at Lake Pupuke was spectacular!
